About the club

Our method

How children learn English at Arthur

Small groups by level. Every child speaks.

Each group has 3 to 7 children, so everyone gets time to speak, not just listen. Children are placed by level rather than age, which is why we start with a free assessment.

Andra, simply “Teacher” to the children.

Arthur was founded in 2014 by teacher Andra Dinu. Her first pupils were her own children, and word quickly spread among parents in the neighbourhood. She still teaches every lesson herself.

“We want our pupils to feel confident speaking English, so they can get to know people from all over the world.”

English to use, with certificates to prove it.

We prepare pupils for Cambridge English exams in partnership with EECentre, an authorised Cambridge exam centre. Arthur is a Cambridge English Qualifications preparation centre, and our pupils also hold Trinity College London certificates.

What children do in a lesson, and what they gain

Two lessons a week, an hour or an hour and a half each. Children learn through conversation, games and quizzes, and the textbook and reading reinforce what they practised out loud. Lessons are recorded, so a child who misses one can catch up on everything.

  1. Conversation

Children speak English with the teacher and with each other: they ask, answer and tell stories.

What they gain: The confidence to speak, without fear of mistakes.

  2. Games and songs

New words come up in games and songs and are repeated out loud.

What they gain: Vocabulary they use, not just memorise, and practised pronunciation.

  3. Quizzes

We review earlier lessons through quizzes.

What they gain: Children see for themselves what they remember and what to practise.

  4. Textbook and reading

We use Educational Centre textbooks and read English books chosen for each age.

What they gain: Enjoying reading in English, not just for homework.

FAQ

What parents ask us

At what age can my child start English classes?

We welcome children of all ages, from kindergarten to high school. Each child joins a group at their level.

Does my child need to know any English already?

No. The free first assessment shows us where your child is starting from, and they join a group of children at the same level.

How many children are in a group?

Between 3 and 7. Groups are small enough for every child to have time to speak in each lesson.

What happens in a lesson?

Children learn through conversation, games, songs and quizzes. We use Educational Centre textbooks and encourage reading in English, with books suited to each age. See what a lesson looks like

Do you prepare children for Cambridge exams?

Yes. Arthur is a Cambridge English Qualifications preparation centre, and exams are taken through EECentre, an authorised Cambridge exam centre. More than 99% of our pupils who sit the exams pass, every year. Pupils also take Trinity College London exams, and the club has been named School Winner in every edition of the Koala competition since 2019. See our results

How much do the English classes cost?

980 lei a month for two lessons a week. The first level assessment is free. We’ll send you the group timetable on WhatsApp or by phone, on 0730 405 733. All practical details

How long is a lesson, and how often are they?

Children have two lessons a week, each an hour or an hour and a half long.

What happens if my child misses a lesson?

Lessons are recorded, so a child who misses one can catch up on everything and doesn’t fall behind the group.

How do I find out how my child is progressing?

You can ask us about your child’s progress at any time, on WhatsApp or at the club. Cambridge exams, Trinity certificates and the Koala competition are clear milestones too.

What is the first assessment like?

It’s a short, free test your child takes at the club. Based on it, we tell you which level they start from and which group suits them.

Where are the English classes held?

At the club, 30 Dr. Constantin Severeanu Street, 1st floor, Sector 5, Bucharest. See the map and directions

Who teaches the lessons?

All lessons are taught by Andra Dinu, who founded the club in 2014. The children simply call her “Teacher”. About our method and teacher

Can we talk to the club in English if we don’t speak Romanian?

Yes. Andra, our teacher, speaks English, so we can talk with parents in English or Romanian.

How do I sign my child up?

Message us on WhatsApp, call us or fill in the form on this page. We’ll agree on a day for the free assessment, then tell you which group suits your child and when they can start. Fill in the form
